Gala event awaits families during Kohima Night Carnival E-mail
Kohima | November 25, 2009 : A gala event, the ‘Kohima Night Carnival’, under the aegis of Kohima Chamber of Commence & Industries (KCCI) with the support of the state government, starting from December 1 to 7, is primarily designed for families for shopping and merrymaking. The Carnival is being organized in view of the festive season of Christmas and the annual Hornbill Festival.

Briefing media persons here today, KCCI vice president Chris Kire said the weeklong Carnival will be marked by street entertainments such as, dancers, solo vocalist, guitarist, violinist, Christmas carols, road side food stalls featuring ethnic to international delicacies.

A bonus to the visitors at large during the Carnival will be discounts on Petrol & LPG. Discount on LPG will be on new connection only. Stating that the sale of alcohol in any form i.e local brew/beer or any kind of beverages with alcohol contain will be strictly prohibited, the KCCI said that defaulters will be imposed with fine, confiscation of their items and not only barring from participating in the Carnival but “will be booked under the law.” The nomenclature of the “Night Bazaar” has been rechristened as “Kohima Night Carnival” from this year onwards. The Carnival is expecting participation from almost all business establishments. Shops will be opened longer than usual from BOC to High School junction while in the heart of the town the stretch from Phool Bari (Y- Junction) to Razhü Point will be a “Pedestrian only” street from 4:00 PM. to 8:00 PM.

Any individual/ organisation/ entertainers interested to join the Carnival can collect forms from the KCCI office between 10:00 AM. to 3:00 PM. The last date for issue of forms has been fixed on November 26. The Carnival will also witness by recognition of best stall and best performer. For the convenience of visitors, necessary transportation arrangement is being pursued by the KCCI. Meanwhile, adequate security has been assured by the district administration. To assist and help the visitors, KCCI volunteers along with the Kohima Village Youth Organisation will be taking rounds in the entire stretch. Revelers visiting the Carnival in the main town can park their vehicles at Local Ground where the volunteers will mend the parking lot. The KCCI has been working tirelessly for the last one month to make the Carnival a successful and meaningful event.

“We have taken priority to improve the condition of our town, therefore basic works such as repairing of footpaths & paintings of road side walls were taken up by us technically & financially. We are also trying to take measures to illuminate the town with decorative lights not only for the Night Carnival but also for the festive season,” said Kire. The KCCI also welcome all to visit the Carnival to make the event a grand success. Those present at the press conference includes; KCCI vice president Kesa-o Angami, women coordinators Abei-u and Atei-u and Jabou, president Kohima District Petroleum Dealers Association.
