Hornbill Car Rally: Action starts Dec 4th E-mail
Kohima (The Morung Express):The Nagaland Adventure & Motor Sports Association (NAMSA) is organising the 3rd edition of the Hornbill Rally from December 4 to 5. The rally is being sponsored by the department of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland and JK Tyres.

There will be special categories for vintage cars and bikes. Special prizes for the best decorated car and bike, senior-most driver and navigator, best institution or company, best family/group participant, all ladies teams (cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd), special prize for North East participants (best driver and navigator) and special category prizes for vintage cars/bikes. Prize money including trophies for the event will total more than Rs 3 lakhs, according to the NAMSA. This year also, the rally will be the TSD (Time Speed Distance) format with a distance of approximately 140 kilometers undisclosed route. The last date of registration will be November 25 at 4:00 pm at the NAMSA office-116 Duncan Basti, opposite The Morung Express, Dimapur. Interested participants will have to submit 3 passport size photos along with the entry forms, it informed.

Entry fees for cars will be Rs 3000 (driver and navigator) and for bikes Rs 1000 (driver and navigator). For further inquires the NAMSA president may be contacted at 9862572374. NAMSA is affiliated to the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI-member of IOA India; FIM Geneva and FIA Paris), a National Sports Federation of Motor Sports recognised by the government of India.

The NAMSA in a note today stated that in the year 2007, the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio had declared the Hornbill Rally to be an annual event. Ever since, the event has grown from strength to strength with participants coming from all over the country including Delhi, Chandigarh, Chennai, UP, Bihar and the rest of the North Eastern states. According to the note, the rally is not only a national sporting event during the Hornbill festival but has also played a positive role in taking the Hornbill festival beyond the state’s borders. This year’s event aims to promote the message of peace, friendship and understanding as well as the necessity of spreading awareness on safe driving and mutual respect on the roads, the note stated.
